The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. The Army Aviation Centre (AACen) has a vacancy within Information Technology (IT) for a Network Architect. This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of the team at Middle Wallop, where the Army trains all its pilots and groundcrew! As well as teaching over 900 students per year we have around 350 Military and Civil Service personnel and over 400 contractors.
As an MOD Civil Servant you will work alongside other civilians and military personnel and be part of the crew that keeps the British Army in the air.
We are looking for someone who will be responsible for the Network management and administration for the AACen as well as being the Network Engineer. You will also manage and procure IT hardware as required.
We are advertising this post at 37 hours per week.
Job description
As the Network Administrator you will:
- Undertake systems administration for servers, switches, gateway, printers and Mobile Device Management system within AACen.
- Responsible for the design, setup, maintenance and revision of group policies
- Analyse and maintain awareness of current threats. Apply security patches as required and ensure routine updates are completed according to required schedule
- Manage and control software licenses for locally owned IT systems to ensure and maintain compliance with legal requirements
- Analyse user requirements, installing appropriate software applications to suit user needs
As network engineer:
- Provide expertise, advice and support to users of networks and standalone systems
- Establish and maintain a technical equipment refresh strategy on a perpetuating basis, replacing and updating network equipment, computers and peripherals as required
- Design detailed proposals for hardware and software upgrades
- Plan and manage maintenance schedules
- Manage and maintain AACen networks, infrastructure and audio-visual equipment
- Liaise, communicate and manage contractors to implement infrastructure installations
As IT procurement officer:
- Purchase items and services via the MOD’s Contract Purchasing & Finance system
- Assist the Higher Executive Officer(HEO) IT and Executive Officer (EO) IT
- Work with HEO IT to manage and deliver priority tasks
Person specification
This role requires an individual with the following personal attributes:
Essential:
- IT based Higher National Diploma, Degree or CompTIA Network+ certification or 3 years of job-related experience considered as an alternative.
Desirable:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2019, Administration, Group Policy Management, Active Directory
- Domain Services
- Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT)
- Cisco Certified Technician (CCT)
- Any IT network / hardware management qualifications
