Bristol, London*, and Warrington. *For London based roles your contractual place of work will be Stratford. However, as that site will not be operational until early 2025 in the interim period you will be required to carry out your contractual duties from Vauxhall, or such other reasonable location, on a temporary basis. For the avoidance of doubt as your contractual place of work is Stratford, the move from any temporary place of work will not give rise to any entitlement to payments for travel time or costs under the Relocation and Excess Travel Policy.

Job description
As a Data Engineer in the Data & Analysis (D&A) Hub you will work as part of a varied technical team at the cutting edge of law enforcement on next-generation projects to help catch the criminals that pose the biggest threat to the UK.
The Data & Analysis Hub (D&A Hub) is the result of the NCA’s ambition to consolidate, professionalise and improve the flow of data and intelligence from acquisition and exploitation through to analysis, assessment and dissemination.
The D&A Hub and its Data Lab team are responsible for;
- Building data exploitation capabilities towards strategic and live operational problems.
- Harnessing engineering of innovative technology, advanced analytics and data science in order to generate actionable insights that deliver decision advantage to disrupt the threat from serious and organised crime
In this role you could find yourself supporting the data engineering team in developing data pipelines and custom components for data integration. This could include building ingestion pipelines (typically using Python and SQL) for structured, semi-structured or unstructured data and interacting with a range of data storage solutions including cloud based data warehouses, relational databases and document stores.
You’ll be working with varied and interesting data covering multiple threat areas originating from a wide range of sources, and the outputs you create will have a direct operational impact.

Locations Available - Bristol, London, and Warrington.
***To be considered, you will need to successfully complete SC Enhanced clearance before commencing the role and achieve DV clearance within the first 12 months in post.***

Your Main Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Team-working: Work in multi-functional teams to advise, develop, and deliver data services to operational challenges.
- Programming and build: Design, code, test, correct and document programs or scripts, using the right standards and tools and ensuring they meet business requirements and user needs.
- Data service delivery: Support the delivery of data services that are automated, reliable, and secure.
- Service Support: Maintain and support D&A Hub services, providing first and second line support to D&A Hub customers for any incidents or issues.
- Data Handling: Design and optimise the implementation of data pipelines to connect operational systems, data services and transformation for analytics.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of software, and dissemination of data / information, whilst ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity in line with NCA policy and enterprise governance standards.
- Communication: Build working relationships with colleagues across the NCA’s technical community to develop skills and cross-functional working.
- Collaboration: Share and disseminate knowledge and findings across the broader technical and NCA community as appropriate.
