This role will be active in enhancing the security of the Planning Inspectorate’s Azure environment by integrating and managing security measures. As a member of a small, friendly, professional team, this role ensures compliance with security standards, automates security processes, and collaborates with IT and development teams to embed security throughout the Inspectorate’s Information Systems.

Job description
We’re looking for a self-motivated person, a proactive problem solver, that works well on their own and as part of a team.
A typical day will see you iteratively improve our security controls, looking for opportunities to automate our monitoring and response processes, and to report on our active security status. You will engage with team members to support a program of cyber changes, and to learn from and respond to cyber incidents.

Office Attendance
This role is contractually based at Temple Quay House, Bristol which is currently out of use due to undergoing refurbishment work. In the interim, we have the use of alternative office space in very close proximity to Bristol Temple Meads railway station. We recognise and value the mutual benefits of hybrid working and have a flexible approach to in person attendance, which can vary dependent on the requirements of individual business units - the details of which can be discussed with candidates if invited to attend an interview.
Person specification
Essential Criteria
- Expertise in cloud security, particularly within Azure environments.
- Hands-on experience with Azure security products, including Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, and Purview.
- Significant working experience of automation skills, including scripting and tool development for security monitoring and incident response.
- Knowledge of compliance standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).
- Relevant Azure or DevOps certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate, Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert).
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in a similar role within the public sector.
- Knowledge of Secure by Design principles and methodologies.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Qualifications
Relevant Azure or DevOps certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate, Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert).
