Job summary

We are hiring a Head of Portfolio, Projects and Improvement to join our Digital Change team.

The Head of Portfolio, Projects and Improvement sits within the Digital Change group and is responsible for overseeing the Portfolio of Change and the Project and Programme delivery teams across Ofsted. The team supports activity across all of Ofsted's business areas and ensures all of Ofsted's work is aligned to deliver our strategic priorities, focussing on operational efficiency of our systems and processes. The portfolio provides the delivery insight of critical change projects across Digital and Data and manages the allocation of resources and deployment to work on both small change and our most high-profile projects and programmes. 

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Digital Change, the Head of Portfolio, Projects and Improvement will lead activities to ensure the correct level of reporting, rigour and standards across Ofsted's portfolio of change, so that programme, projects and services are delivered as efficiently as possible.

Suitable project qualification e.g. Prince 2, APM Practitioner or equivalent experience with a commitment to gain formal qualifications.

  • Creative problem solving skills and strong decision making judgement in a portfolio, project and programme environment.

Application and Shortlisting:

The selection panel will assess your application based on your evidence you have provided against the essential criteria as set out in the person specification.

You will also be asked to provide information within the “Employer/Activity History” section of the application form. This information is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV setting out your career history (this may be used in the sifting process).

In the event should we receive a high number of applications, we will undertake a initial sift on the following criteria below:.

Assessment and Interview:

Candidates who pass the benchmark at the shortlisting stage will be invited to an assessment (presentation) and interview where they will be assessed against a mixture of the Civil Service behaviours and the experience skills set out in section 3 of the job specification. 

We will invite the most suitable candidates to attend an assessment and interview via Microsoft Teams during the week commencing Monday 12 August 2024.
