As a Lead Test Engineer, you will provide overall leadership for multiple Test Engineering teams supporting programmes, projects and live services within the Digital Channels Team.
Digital Channels are leading on the delivery of a number of large programmes including the transformation of our Contact Centre Telephony platform and improving the ways in which we interact with customers via various media. You’ll be responsible for developing Test Strategies in support of this activity and ensuring that effective testing of new and updated Products is undertaken, providing assurance to the quality of Delivery.
This role will suit an experienced test engineer who is excellent at stakeholder management, developing robust Test Strategies and working with Delivery teams to ensure that quality services are promoted into Production.
A clear understanding of testing principles in an Agile environment is essential as is experience of Enterprise Voice Platforms.

Job description
You will have deep knowledge and experience of test engineering principles, tools and delivery methodologies, and work with other key stakeholders to make strategic decisions for customer services.
Responsible for providing overall leadership and support to multiple Test Engineering teams across Digital Channels
- Working together with key stakeholders and technical decision makers to define strategic vision for products and services.
- Oversee, influence, support and coach a large number of diverse multi-disciplinary teams involved in building, testing, delivering and maintaining solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement, consistency, standards, and quality. Resolving testing technical blockers and promoting reuse and collaboration.
- Own test planning and risks, issues and dependencies (external and internal) in a complex environment.
- Promote Test Engineering engagement with continuous integration, delivery and deployment practices and guide teams toward continuous testing following more adaptive Agile delivery principles, methodology and tools.
- Collaborating with Product Owners, Engineers, and Architects on strategic vision and to design, build and maintain quality and testability of solutions.
- Ensure that usability, accessibility, security, stability and capacity are assured in the development of the services.
- Promote and enable adoption of the latest valuable trends, tools and best practices within Test Engineering and promote across the practice.
- Identify Test Engineering skills gaps and support capability growth, and actively contribute to the recruitment of talent into the organisation.
Person specification

- Lead Criterion - Experience testing in complex enterprise voice domains, supporting new projects and maintenance of solutions including software & hardware.
- Excellent communicator who can coach, collaborate, influence, develop and lead multiple diverse teams.
- Influencing decision makers and key stakeholder to help support and define the strategic vision of solutions.
- Knowledge of a programming language (such as Java, JavaScript), technology, and general testing engineering frameworks and tools including voice applications testing tools such as Cyara, Empirix and Nectar CS.
- Ensures that both functional and non-functional needs are embedded in the development & testing of solutions.
- Ability to understand, review and implement the latest practices, principles, and processes, driving towards whole team quality.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
Salary Information
Pay for this role is from £72,664 to £77,740.
The maximum salary for the grade is £77,740, however a Digital Allowance of up to £10,000 per annum is available for exceptional candidates. Digital Allowance is non-salary, and non-pensionable, and is classed as a temporary allowance. It is reviewed annually where it could be retained, amended, or removed.
Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.
Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.
Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.
