Job summary

Companies House as an organisation is moving to a service team structure as part of its transformation. The three current service teams are made up of Filing, Get Company Information (GCI), and Intelligence & Enforcement (I&E). Our Business Analysts will play a key role in the identification, analysis, and delivery of requirements for these service teams whilst working in an Agile way using Scrum framework. Due to recent legislative change, we are in an exciting period of growth and are looking to increase our number of business analysts.  

The Business Analysis team sits within Product Design which is part of the Digital and Technology directorate (DaT). Along with other professions within the directorate the analysis team will form part of and work in Service Squads providing the necessary resource to develop systems and processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of their service.

Job description

The Senior Business Analyst will work with and report to a Lead Business Analyst in their designated service squad. 

Assigned to a service squad, the Senior Business Analyst is responsible for ensuring the provision of requirements for projects/business improvements to facilitate development work on existing and new digital services. There will also be involvement in the business improvement refinement process as well as the resolution of live issues to ensure business as usual continuity of the service is maintained.  

Responsibilities 

Successful candidates will be expected to use their knowledge, skills, and experience to conduct the following tasks: 

Agile working – be responsible for ensuring processes are in place to allow user stories to be defined/refined meeting the needs of the scrum, whilst supporting Business Analysts on the delivery of those user stories.  

Work with scrum teams in the squad providing analysis representation at all relevant agile ceremonies (Sprint planning, Sprint review etc).  

If required, work as a liaison with external scrums (non CH) through the provision of Companies House process/system knowledge.  

Testing – work with colleagues to assess and define test coverage required for projects and BI work. Work with others to obtain the necessary data/work items or test instances required to allow effective testing to take place.  

Business improvement (BI’s/Problems) – involvement in the Business Improvement (BI) process for their service and facilitate business value scoring sessions with service team representatives. Analyse and evaluate BI’s and produce problem statements to define the issue/problem faced and outline the user needs. 

Manage, investigate, and prioritise live issues. This is a key role to ensure that where required, analysis input is provided in a timely manner. 

Business modelling – Develop and expand knowledge and experience of using BA tools to model business processes. Responsibility for the creation and maintenance of business process, data flows and system models for the work within their squad. Mentor Business Analysts/Junior Business analysts on business modelling.  

Capture the changes made to existing services or document new services and capture how these changes impact on existing digital infrastructure across the services. 

User focus and requirements definition and management – ensure development teams understand user requirements and provide an escalation point for queries relating to user requirements which can’t be dealt with by a Business Analyst.  

Ensure documentation supporting the development process is captured (stories and epics in JIRA and supporting documentation in Confluence).  

Work closely with Product Managers to create packages of work (missions) which align with both Companies House and digital strategy and meet service priorities. 

Digital perspective – work with the Scrum, Developers, Lead Analysts, Architects and User centric teams to establish technical solutions for the projects or business Improvements being developed. Consider how changes in technology/systems impacts both internal and external services.  

Ensure usability needs are considered when defining requirements  

Stakeholder relationship management – develop networks and relationships with key stakeholders within the Filing, I&E and GCI services.  

Develop networks and relationships with other professions and teams within Digital and Technology. 

Business analysis – gain a wide experience of the organisation and its services and use BA knowledge to support the objectives of the organisation as outlined in the Business plan and digital strategy.   

Play an active role in the South Wales BA Community of Practice. Help to organise CH events and attend and participate in events hosted by other organisations.  

Play a leading role in the mentoring of Business Analysts/Junior Business Analysts to develop their BA knowledge and experience. Also responsible for management of Business Analysts as well as responsible for their training and development programmes.

We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst who will be an enthusiastic and motivated team player to work within a fast-paced development environment. As such:  

  • You have experience of Agile working and its processes towards delivering requirements 
  • You will have worked with colleagues to create test coverage for requirements – both data and scenarios for testing 
  • You have experience of working on business improvements and resolution of live issues 
  • You will have experience of mapping business processes and systems modelling 
  • You will be comfortable with the management of stakeholders 
  • You can document requirements for use during development and also reference material after implementation 
  • You have experience of discussing requirements with user groups to establish deliverables 
  • You have strong written and oral communication skills 
  • You have experience of coaching and mentoring others 
  • You have the ability to be a role model to define change 

Technical
