We are looking for a driven and passionate Senior DevOps Engineer who would like to be part of a team delivering real value to people that need help during the difficult times of their lives.

You will act as a DevOps leader, with line management responsibility of DevOps Engineers. This will consist of leading and supporting existing DevOps Engineers while increasing capability, standards, and practices across the organisation.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will contribute to our community ensuring that DWP and our DevOps practices evolve in line with technology advances.

Our development teams at DWP Digital - Health and Disability create solutions that enable simple, responsive services to make timely, accurate and understandable decisions that help 16 million people in the UK, that have a health condition or disability, get the support they need.

The Cloud infrastructure team within Health and Disability is a platform and enabling team with specialist skilling that centrally develops and maintains an application platform and a data & analytics platform to meet the needs of our transforming and scaling Health & Disability services and users. We do this to reduce cognitive load on individual Health development teams to allow those teams reclaim time and energy that can be spent on developing great products which scale and that are reliable.

Due to the size and location of the team you’ll be required to regularly travel to all Hub locations.

Job description

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will be using modern tooling to develop CI/CD pipelines and DevOps toolchains where you will strive to put automation at the heart of everything you do.

You will craft and implement solutions that are highly available, resilient, scalable, extensible, and maintainable within multiple cloud environments.

Working across the organisation you will be pushing a mindset change to foster engineering ownership, and the importance of the integrity and maintenance of the services we deliver.

Other responsibilities will include working across product-focussed teams to gather requirements, evaluate tools, implementing/updating solutions, provision environments, and assisting with operational issues.

Person specification

When giving details in your CV you should highlight your experience in line with essential criteria below:

• LEAD CRITERIA - Demonstrable knowledge of writing and maintaining Infrastructure, and Configuration as Code.

• Demonstrable experience of using Unix/Linux in a support and/or development environment including scripting languages.

• Demonstrable experience of working in a DevOps environment – Continuous Integration & Deployment, Delivery methods and techniques, including agile scrum experience.

• Demonstrable knowledge of implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience of supporting, guiding, and developing Engineers across multi-disciplinary teams in an agile environment.

• Demonstrable experience of developing and supporting cloud-based applications (AWS and/or Azure).

Salary Information

Pay for this role is from £52,412 to £63,517.

The maximum salary for the grade is £63,517, however a Digital Allowance of up to £15,000 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 1: Application

Stage 2: Interview

If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the experiences listed in the essential criteria.
