Job description
The WRA is leading on the implementation of the visitor levy for Wales. In preparation for the new tax we are modernising how we deliver and organise our services.
You will lead on designing user interaction of our digitals systems.
You will be a member of multidisciplinary teams that deliver continuous improvement in the (payment or registration) service and work collaboratively in the wider visitor levy multidisciplinary teams.
They will be responsible for collaborating with prospective and current users to understand and anticipate their needs.
We are looking for someone who is personable and can fit into the team; someone who is enthusiastic, proactive, adaptable and keen to engage across the business and effectively represent user needs.
We expect this role in the future to work across a number of different service teams as WRA functions evolve, and as such will set the standard for how we design and implement user interaction across complex services.
They will take ownership of interaction design in developing our new taxes. They will work closely with our service designers, user researchers and developers to create digital services that are easy to use and help users get their taxes right first time.
The post holder will make decisions about how best to design digital service to meet our user needs. They would be expected to set the standards for user interaction across all of WRA services, provide advice and guidance to DDAT colleagues and become a subject matter expert for User Interaction in the WRA.

They will take ownership of interaction design in developing our new taxes. They will work closely with our service designers, user researchers and developers to create digital services that are easy to use and help users get their taxes right first time.
As a interaction designer, the postholder will:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualise, design, and implement user-centred digital solutions that enhance the overall user experience of services.
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and analysis to inform design decisions, ensuring alignment with the diverse needs and preferences of citizens and stakeholders.
- Develop wireframes, interactive prototypes, and design specifications to effectively communicate design concepts and user flows to development teams and project stakeholders.
- Work closely with government agencies and departments to understand complex requirements, transforming them into intuitive and accessible digital interfaces that meet accessibility and compliance standards.
- Champion a user-centric design process, promoting the importance of empathy and inclusivity in the creation of public-facing digital products and services.
- Collaborate with visual designers, developers, and other team members to ensure the seamless integration of design solutions into functional, user-friendly interfaces.
- Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in interaction design and UX, applying this knowledge to improve the digital experiences within the public sector.
- Advocate for design thinking methodologies and contribute to an environment that values creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Communicate excellently, with the ability to articulate and advocate for design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
