Job description

You will develop robust, flexible solutions that support our innovative transport policies, leveraging the latest cloud technologies in Azure and Google Cloud. Your leadership and experience will support the business in developing new ways of solving business problems.

We want to hear from proactive people who are eager to grow their skills and advance their careers. You will work with other lead architects in the team, supporting each other to deliver across team’s areas of focus, such as Security, Data and Infrastructure using Azure or Google Cloud.  

As a Technical Architect level, you will be:

  • Leading the development of secure serverless solutions and build them in cloud environments.
  • Identifying ways of more efficient, cost-effective and sustainable ways of managing the cloud and the services hosted within it.
  • Working with our engineering and analysis teams to build, maintain, and scale digital solutions using new tools in Google and Azure environments.
  • Develop a tooling plan for cloud management and support the engineering team in identifying new opportunities for automation.

Person specification

We are looking for someone with hands on digital experience either designing, developing, building or understanding IT services.

You will need to meet the following criteria:

Experience

A technical architect works with multiple projects or teams on problems that require broad architectural thinking. To be successful in this role you will have experience of:

Architect for the whole context - We want to see where you work has gone beyond your immediate goals or remit, and benefitted the wider teams you work with.

Architecture communication - How have you been able to communicate the complex and technical solutions you have developed across a range of non-technical stakeholders with differing user needs?

Making architectural decisions - When you have made decisions that define the development and implementation of products, demonstrate how you have considered business needs and security risks.

Strategy design - Show us some evidence of how you use road-mapping or similar planning techniques to direct the implementation of your products.

Technical design throughout the lifecycle - How do you create, and lead others to create technical designs when there is a high risk, high impact, and high complexity environment?

Additional Information 

A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. 

Government Digital and Data Profession Pay Framework

The role is part of the Government Digital and Data profession and utilises an enhanced Capability–Based Pay Framework which provides access to a Digital and Data allowance.

The base pay is £51,997. In addition to this the role includes a Digital and Data allowance of up to £28,403

The value of allowance awarded will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated through the selection process.

Interviews are due to take place w/c 09th September 2024.

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview. 

We will try to meet the dates set out in the advert. There may be occasions when these dates will change. You will be provided with sufficient notice of the confirmed dates. 

The selection process will be designed specifically for the role. As a result, your assessment will include: 

  • An interview
  • You will be provided two interview questions 48 hours prior to your interview so you can prepare your answers in advance.  This is not a presentation so you will not need to prepare any materials, we just want to give you additional time to reflect on your experience.  The rest of the interview questions will not be provided in advance.
