We are recruiting into our End User Compute team. The team currently consists of in-house civil servants working as engineers/senior engineers and lead engineers and there is an opportunity for a Senior Product manager to join the team in developing our products for Home Office consumption.
Our products span across a wide range of technical solutions including:
- Windows 11
- Apple
- Android
Each product offering consists of nuanced configurations and solutions which are offered to the Home Office areas of business.
As a Senior Product Manager will use your knowledge of user needs and business goals to frame and solve problems and set priorities for both the engineering and delivery teams. You will be a key stake holder for the overall vision and quality of the product being delivered in conjunction with Lead Infrastructure Engineers or portfolio/programme director.
What You'll do:
- Forming the vision for the product(s) you own and engage teams and stakeholders in the development of that vision over time
- Leading the production of roadmaps, release plans and lifecycle plans for the delivery and maintenance of the product(s) from inception right the way through to retirement as well as inputting into the departmental wide approach to road mapping/lifecycle planning
- Taking a product through its lifecycle (e.g. discovery, alpha, beta, live) including service assessments
- Presenting and maintaining useful dashboard type views of the product lifecycle in terms of delivery, resources to work with and any RAG status changes in relation to the products you manage.
- Representing users and focus on their needs throughout the delivery process. You will be a people centric person and will have a passion for improving User Experiences across the Home Office estate.
- Leading the prioritisation process for the work that needs to be done by the development team by creating and maintaining a product backlog which balances immediate user needs with the long-term investment in development and overall business benefits
- Providing final sign off on any completed functional development prior to the deployment to a production environment for your product(s)
- Taking the lead in using product or service usage data, and user feedback to devise new ideas for functionality or new ways of working with a continuous improvement mindset and take a lead in promoting such evidence/data driven design across the wider department.
Essential Skills
- Investigating patterns and trends from user data identify and resolve problems as well as continuous improvement
- Working in the delivery of technology-based projects
- Budgeting and financial control skills as well as commercial awareness
- Communicating using a variety of methods (written reports, verbal feedback, presentations etc.), applying the appropriate method to each scenario/audience, which at this level, will usually be large groups
- Leading in promoting the needs of the team, and of the product; understanding how these may vary between the different phases of a product lifecycle.
- Demonstrable experience of understanding future digital technology features and themes and incorporating them into existing backlogs, roadmaps and products/services
- Have a good understanding of current, and future roadmaps in the Microsoft 365 space specifically around M365 applications, Windows, Mac, iOS and Android in terms of addons, enablement, operating platform releases
