We welcome applications from people who many require flexible working arrangements, such as condensed working hours. You’ll be able to discuss your flexible working requirements during the interview process and at offer stage.

We’re looking for a Head of Delivery to join our team on a 24-month fixed-term contract to lead the delivery of our Data Enablement portfolio. This team leads the transformation of processes across all of our Co-op business areas (e.g. Food Retail, Funeralcare, Insurance, Legal Services, Wholesale etc) implementing automation, analytics, data science, and AI to enable more efficient, informed, and data-driven decisions. It’s an exciting time to join this team, as they’ve recently carried-out a strategic refresh and created a 3-year change portfolio to implement the latest software, platforms, and processes to provide support right across Co-op. In this role you’ll work in a hybrid way – splitting your time between home and our Manchester office (find out more about our hybrid working policy at colleagues.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

As the Head of Delivery for our Data Enablement team, you’ll collaborate closely with other Heads of Delivery within our broader Digital Technology & Data (DT&D) team to build an understanding of business needs – prioritising demand based on strategic objectives, risks, dependencies, and potential team capacity or technical constraints. You’ll be responsible for estimating how long various products, projects, and programs will take to deliver, and determining the skills and resources necessary for successful, high-quality delivery. We’ll also look to you to champion the adoption of best-practice delivery principles that align with our overall DT&D strategy and operating model and create a collaborative environment for our colleagues. This is a great opportunity to help us deliver larger and more complex projects, ensuring data is at the heart of Co-op’s decision-making and helping us achieve our vision of ‘co-operating to build more value for our member-owners every day’.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and oversee the delivery portfolio for our Data Enablement team
  • Be a key member of our Data Enablement leadership team and collaborate with other Heads of Delivery across our broader DT&D team
  • Understand business needs to ensure requirements are achievable, prioritised, and effectively communicated to relevant colleagues
  • Support our Head of Data to oversee the investment budget for Data Enablement
  • Ensure our delivery approaches and standards are consistent across the DT&D team
  • Lead the community of practice for our Technology Delivery Managers; encouraging them to share their knowledge and experience
  • Work with our Talent Acquisition & Development colleagues to plan and deliver effective recruitment activity
  • Lead, coach, and mentor our Data Product Managers and Delivery Leads; supporting them in their technical and career development, as well as guiding and prioritising their daily work

This role would suit people who have

  • Experience as a Head of Delivery on data and/or digital projects
  • Experience implementing automated/digital reporting over a portfolio of change to efficiently oversee progress, delivery, risks, colleagues, spend etc
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good leadership skills with the ability to coach and guide delivery teams through change
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inclusively influence and challenge people at all levels of seniority
  • The ability to adapt and respond effectively to changing business needs

Why Co-op?

As a Co-op colleague, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services). You’ll also get:

  • Private healthcare
  • A company car or £6,000 car allowance
  • An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
  • Coaching and training to support your career development
  • Wagestream – a money management app that gives you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • YuLife – an app that rewards you for exercising with discounts and vouchers for your favourite brands
