Manchester-based ARMSA Academy has been shortlisted from 455 companies for the national Safety Health and Excellence Awards 2024. Finalist for the Best Use of Health and Safety Data to Lower Incident Rates, ARMSA Academy has developed innovative technology called h’alt® that is making the renewable energy sector safer and more profitable.
The Safety and Health Excellence Awards celebrate innovation and achievements in health and safety across industries. This year, there were a record 455 entries, double the number in 2023.
Renewable energy currently suffers from a critical skills gap, and to reach net zero targets, the sector will need to employ 3.7 million people globally by 2030, rising to 6 million by 2050. A lack of skilled resources and reactive workforce planning mean people on the ground are often left without the knowledge or tools to make agile, informed decisions, leading to asset breakdowns, lost production, and threats to safety.
Last year, ARMSA Academy launched h’alt® - game-changing technology that accelerates human decision-making, lowers risk and drives performance through safety, enabling renewable energy organisations to scale profitably and safely.
h’alt® empowers learning and decision-making in the workflow. Integrating with Microsoft Teams, users can type in queries and access role-based content on-site or at desks. Learning in the workflow means that busy professionals can apply knowledge immediately rather than take time out of the work day for classroom training.
Front-end loaded training content empowers users to focus on project planning and avoid costly mistakes. Advanced reporting and analytics help management identify and address key levers such as knowledge gaps that could adversely affect safe performance.
h’alt® is already proving to enhance performance at the offshore wind turbine manufacturer Vestas APAC. h’alt® is currently deployed across two countries for Vestas APAC and is helping to improve workforce planning and support. With the Machine Learning (ML) technology upgrades currently underway, ARMSA is targeting to make further impacts by reducing frictional costs by 10% and cut project delivery times by 7%.

Well-known presenter Dara Ó Briain will announce the winners at this years’ Safety and Health Excellence Awards ceremony in Birmingham on 1 May.
