This month at Chameleon we have been reflecting on our past articles and have rounded up our ‘top tips’ on how to engage employees and how to maintain that engagement for a workplace that really works for everyone.
Chameleon’s 5 Top Tips
Know your why:
In our October article we stressed the importance of companies knowing the ‘why’ and sharing it with their employees “The only way of engaging employees is to get the team hands on with the company strategy and vision. Many employees don’t know the true why of what they are doing and have no say in how this can be improved.” How are your employees supposed to engage in your company vision for the future and help you to achieve those goals, if you haven’t told them what they are?
Give your employees a voice and make sure you listen to it:
Your employees are usually your first line of defence, they are the ones working day in and day out with your systems and products, listen to them, it could be that they are the ones that find solutions to problems you didn’t even know they were having and “allows workplaces to tap in to an often-overlooked asset, front line testers, working with your company’s ‘product’ daily and spotting the issues long before they make it to the analyst’s attention.” We also mentioned a company that had been recognised for their incredible work in this area “The company took a look at how they communicated on all levels across their facility and realised that there were improvements to be made, and as a result they established a number of forums, surveys, and employee engagement events to allow employees to
Give as good as you get:
For top quality staff, you need top quality rewards, people expect more from employers and know their worth. At the moment, people are assessing their priorities and are commanding that they are not only paid what they are worth, but are recognised as wanting a good work, life balance. HR now have to treat employees like customers, winning them over and making them stay. If this truly is what is happening, then now is the perfect time to use ideas from how companies communicate with their customers.
Go beyond the staff works do:
“With the separation of office and workspace becoming the new normal”, it’s easy to see why employees have felt distanced from their company’s vision. Communication of new initiatives may not have been “that well executed in the difficult adjustment period of transitioning to zoom meeting”. Or company growth and successes may not have been as easily celebrated and rewarded. Now is the perfect time for this situation to be remedied and events such as brand activations can really help. Events are an excellent way of combating these issues, and we love working together with a company to think of a new and innovative event that will make employees feel part of the company and its growth, and not just a number. Take a look at some of the brand activations and installations we have been working on this year with Paramount+. After working hard to create a successful launch in the UK, Paramount+ wanted us to create a brand launch in their offices to reward their staff and to create an immersive experience to really celebrate what the employees had all been working towards.
So just in time for the annual Christmas party, this is a great opportunity to look at what you are planning. Have you asked yourself- what will the effect be of this on my company? What benefit will this have for us? Potentially, this could be the first in person meeting of your company for a few years, why not break the mould and step away from the expected?
