At Manchester Digital, we like to interview our members to find out a bit more about what they do and their work in the Greater Manchester digital and technology sphere. This week we're speaking with CEO, Matt Lovell at CloudGuard AI.
Please, introduce yourself…
CloudGuard is a cybersecurity managed services provider that uses a combination of artificial and human intelligence to proactively hunt and remediate threats across on premise, cloud and application platforms. Born out of growing cyber threats, CloudGuard was founded in 2020 to help companies accelerate better cyber security through automation and AI.
I (Matt Lovell, CEO) have been in the IT industry for over 30 years. I love the excitement and ever-changing nature of the industry – no two days are ever the same.
As a remote-first business with our headquarters in the heart of Manchester, Jav, the team and I are looking to shake up the cybersecurity sector with the UK's top talent. Currently, we stand at just over 28 Guardians and are looking to reach 50 by the end of 2024.
Tell us something that we might not know about CloudGuard AI?
Everyone in our business is a Guardian, contributing to the protection and enhancement of all our customers' cybersecurity posture, continuously. When Jav and I founded CloudGuard, we had a vision: to automate cybersecurity protection and help shield businesses from escalating threats.
We recognise this as a long-term commitment and project, where we continue to invest in the development and attraction of more individuals into cybersecurity while providing support for anyone to succeed. Protecting businesses is personal to us, which is why being a Guardian is as much about wanting to make the world better as it is about the incredible innovations and technologies we are developing as a team.
What do you think is currently the biggest issue facing the tech industry?
Purpose.
While incredible opportunities are emerging in cognitive and generative AI, as well as automation, technology requires a greater purpose. We must understand the impact that our collective use and evolution of technology are having on both society and our environment. Technology can be utilised to innovate and solve incredibly complex challenges, but it is also being used in ways that counteract positive intentions and hinder progress towards making the world a better place.
What do you think the future looks like for Manchester’s tech sector?
I absolutely adore Manchester, and witnessing its remarkable ascent as a technology and cyber hub is truly inspiring. While the city boasts everything one could desire, it's the sense of community, the culture of sharing knowledge, ideas, and creativity while having fun that truly sets Manchester apart and makes it incredibly unique and special. The quality of its universities, the diversity, and the warmth of its communities lay solid foundations for technology startups and rapidly growing businesses. This is why we made the decision in 2024 to move our headquarters from London to Manchester.
Also, the Northern Powerhouse offers a wealth of experiences, with seasoned professionals and business leaders ready to nurture and support the next generation of innovation and technology businesses. Together, they foster an environment where investing in people and our communities thrives.
What emerging tech trends and innovations are you excited about in 2024?
Having worked with Machine Learning for over 14 years now, I've witnessed its evolution into supporting AI technologies. This transformation opens up incredible opportunities and possibilities to learn faster and solve complex data problems - expanding our horizons and accelerating progress. Among the most thrilling tech trends in 2024 and beyond are innovations in sustainability, renewable energy, improved waste management and recycling. Additionally, advancements in medical technology aim to streamline and accelerate treatments while enhancing healthcare accessibility. And, of course, cybersecurity remains a pivotal focus area driving exciting developments.
Thank you Matt!
