Heading for the clouds: Bytemark lift off with an innovative new identity

Established in 2002, Bytemark started out as a hosting company with a fierce reputation for supporting free software and open source projects.

Since buying and building their own data centre in York back in 2013, the company has increasingly focused on developing their innovative cloud platform to help customers adopt the latest cloud computing workflows.

As part of this mission to help customers get the most out of emerging computing technologies, the team are embarking on an exciting new project to go alongside their hosting offerings.

In 2019, Bytemark will launch a fully-managed Kubernetes service to compete with some of the biggest names in the technology sector - Amazon Web Services, Digital Ocean and Google Cloud.

This service will provide standardised mechanisms for deploying, maintaining and scaling applications. The goal is to use their resources and expert staff to remove the task of infrastructure management from customers completely. Allowing them to focus on developing their products and services to fuel business growth.

To support this new focus Bytemark have introduced a new identity designed by the team at York-based design studio, United By Design.

Speaking about the partnership, Owen Turner, United By Design’s Founder, reflects on the importance of working with other local talented companies

“York can often be overlooked in terms of cities that are truly smashing it. This needs to change. The perception that larger cities, such as, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow are the go-to ‘creative hubs’ is outdated. We want to help change this perception and raise the profile of our city. The creative, design and digital industry in York, is thriving. Collaborating within the city allows us to highlight the huge amount of talent, innovation and opportunity on offer, while also boosting the economy. Bringing our strategy, craft of design and commercial approach to a challenger brand such as Bytemark has been very rewarding.”

The redesign includes an updated brand and associated assets; colour palette, typeface, new imagery and illustrations. All developing an exciting new visual language and brand experience that fits with the companies’ business strategy and growth objectives for the future.

A wider range of vibrant colours were introduced to give the company more flexibility when creating visual content. The bolder palette also aligns well with Bytemark moving into more innovative, developing technology.

The brand mark includes geometric shapes that help to incorporate and reinforce factors that have always been, and will continue to be, at the core of Bytemark’s identity - stability and infrastructure.

So, as Bytemark take their next step as a company they have a bold new look to propel them up to the clouds.
