Joining a new company at the age of 58 might seem unusual to some, but my experience at Informed has been a testament to how age and experience can be valuable assets, not just in finance, but in any industry.
I came on board as a temporary employee for a ten-week engagement, bringing over 30 years of experience in the finance sector. Today, 18 months later, I’m a full-time member of the Informed family, serving as a Supplier Manager with a bright future ahead.
A Supportive and Positive Culture
Having worked across various companies internationally, both at home and abroad in Turkey, Cyprus, and Syria, I have encountered many different corporate cultures. The roles I have held have varied from owner/manager of a textile SME to a strategy and financial performance manager for a multinational financial services company. I have also spent many years working with charities and non-profit organisations.
My wide experience has shown me that many organisations talk about fostering a positive staff experience, but at Informed, they truly live their values. When I first joined Informed, I had no prior experience in data transformation or AI – areas in which the company operates. However, instead of being deterred by this, I was empowered to learn and grow. The company has a strong culture of encouraging and supporting professional development, where employees are given opportunities to explore new areas of interest, even those outside of their original expertise. There is a collaborative culture in which everyone is keen to share their specialist perspectives, and this was enormously useful as a help to solve problems and learn new skills.
Personally, I was able to get involved in some exciting international business ventures, such as incorporating a subsidiary company in Malaysia and helping to build a financial business plan for Informed Solutions’ operations in Australia. These experiences allowed me to work closely with senior executives and external stakeholders, giving me a level of responsibility and exposure that is rare for someone originally hired in a temporary position
I felt proud and grateful to be entrusted with this responsibility, and I was excited by this new challenge, especially since I had the support of my managers and colleagues as I established my role in furthering a key aspect of our strategic plan.
