Calling all digital project managers: Now is your time! The Digital PM community is young, but growing very quickly. If you’re in or around Manchester, you are very lucky because DPM:UK is one of the only events with programming specifically for you. The fine folks at Manchester Digital have dedicated some serious time and resources to help grow our fledgling community, and for that I am so thankful.
On the heels of organizing, running and speaking at the 2013 Digital PM Summit, I was honored to speak at DPM:UK 2014. Thrilled to cross the pond, I found my way to a vibrant city that not only supports digital communities in a major way, but specifically found a place for my people. That phrase may sound silly, but it’s true! There are communities and events all over the globe for UX, Design, Content Strategy, Development of all flavors, and so on. But there is very little for digital project managers. The fact that your city is dedicated to this community and put on an amazing one day event in support of it means a lot to me. And to be honest, I would not miss the second event for anything!
If you’re just thinking about attending DPM:UK in 2015, maybe I can help you make your decision. Think of it this way: You’ll be engaged by a stellar line-up of speakers who are intelligent digital PMs and industry leaders. You have the opportunity to meet hundreds of your peers—the people who face the same challenges as you on a daily basis. It’s like a full-day event for your industry peers, potential friends, and professional contacts. There will be laughs, because PMs face challenges and actually have a great sense of humor about them. There will also be drinks, because you need one after closing that project plan and posting those meeting notes. No, really, Manchester Digital will host a great happy hour after the event so you can continue the conversation that happens at the event itself.
If you can’t make it, fine. I understand. But if your interest is piqued, stay engaged with the Digital PM community and with Manchester Digital. You have great resources close by and via the web. There’s a lot going on in Manchester, but I would love nothing more than to see you be a part of what we’re doing in the states as well. There are group chats, twitter discussions, webinars, and more. We’re growing this thing and we need you to make it a success. Carry on.
