SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED FOR BIG CHIP AWARDS 2010

Over 40 companies from across the North West will be competing this summer after being shortlisted for The Big Chip Awards, the North West’s annual awards for companies excelling in the use of IT and digital technology.
The 2010 awards have attracted hundreds of entries from companies across the whole of the region. A total of 62 entries from all over the North West region are on the shortlist.
The panel of judges, chaired by Michael Nutley, editor of New Media Age, includes Gavin Ailes of Searchworks, Peter Cowley of Endemol, Alasdair Rawsthorne of the University of Manchester, Steve Smith of Liverpool Vision and Channel 4’s commissioning editor for education and new media Matt Locke.
This year there are 12 North West categories, 3 categories open to entries from across the North of England and the Big Chip International Award for Innovation. Special awards including the Big Chip New Media Agency award, the Anthony Wilson Original Modern Award and the Grand Prix will be chosen from the shortlist and presented on the night, the Tasty Website Award, decided by popular vote, will also be decided on the night.
The awards are organised by Manchester Digital, the trade association for the region’s digital sector working with partners such as Liverpool Vision and will be once again hosted by Manchester broadcaster and reality television star Terry Christian.
The headline sponsor of this year’s Big Chip Awards are Vision+Media and the other sponsors are 2ergo, Insider, Manchester Metropolitan University, Marketing Manchester, Melbourne Server Hosting, MIDAS, Montpelier, New Media Age, Archant and UK Trade and Investment.
Chairman of Manchester Digital and Big Chip organiser, Shaun Fensom, said: "Not only did we get more entries than ever before but the standards have gone up again. So we have a very strong shortlist - a real indication of just how well the sector is doing in the North West."
The Big Chip Awards will be announced the awards ceremony and dinner on Thursday 10th June 2010 at Manchester’s Palace Hotel - now a must-attend event for businesses from across the region.
