Manchester Digital, we believe in doing good as we go. That’s why we’re proud to launch a simple but powerful new initiative: Bring a Tin.
From now on, we’re encouraging everyone who attends a Manchester Digital event to bring a tin of food to donate to Mustard Tree, a Manchester charity working at the frontline of poverty and homelessness.
We were shocked to learn that Mustard Tree recently ran out of tins to give to people who come to them for help. That really hit home.
Our events attract hundreds of people. So we thought – what if each of us brought just one tin? Together, we could make a real difference by helping to replenish vital supplies for those in our city who need them most.
Food poverty is a growing crisis. In the UK:
- Over 9 million adults reported experiencing food insecurity in January 2024 alone.
- More than 1 in 5 parents say they regularly skip meals so their children can eat.
These aren’t just statistics – they reflect the reality for many individuals and families across Greater Manchester. This shouldn’t be the reality in our city—or anywhere.
We’re not a charity or experts in food redistribution. But we can be a community that looks out for each other. Because before people can move on and up—into work, into training, into stability—they need something many of us take for granted: food in their belly.
So next time you come to a Manchester Digital event, bring a tin. It’s a small gesture that could mean a warm meal for someone who desperately needs it.
Let’s make doing good part of what we do—together, and let’s make kindness part of the culture.
