Warrington-based Ixis has worked with the British Council for more than six years and this latest project will include hosting and maintaining a collection of Drupal educational websites including Learn English, Teaching English and Premier Skills English which brings together English and football.
Ixis will work on a project to create four individual platforms for hosting key websites on - moving away from just one main infrastructure. Hosting the main sites separately will improve the resilience, efficiency and overall uptime of the individual websites.
The company will also provide continued 24/7 Drupal website support to the British Council which has around eight teaching and learning websites generating more than 35 million page impressions per month.
Martin Heineberg, websites and media coordinator for the British Council, said: “Our free learning and teaching English language websites are used by more than 65 million people each year alone. It is essential for us to ensure these important learning tools are working efficiently and are accessible at all times for our users.
“Having worked with Ixis for more than six years, we knew we could rely on them to provide the right solution for hosting the websites. As Drupal hosting and support experts, they are always quick to respond and resolve any rare instances involving technical issues.”
Chris Haslam, co-founder of Ixis said: “The British Council is consistently pushing the boundaries of using digital and Drupal to meet its objectives in delivering essential educational services. Having developed an excellent working relationship with the team on previous projects to redevelop the entire web infrastructure, we’re pleased to be able to offer consistent ‘added value’ to them. This is one of the largest Drupal projects in the UK and we are proud to be part of it.
“The project demonstrates our continued success in working with the public sector and our understanding of the market.”
Ixis works with a number of leading local authorities including Bristol City Council and Westminster City Council as well as other government bodies such as Healthwatch England and the Care Quality Commission.
Ixis, which turned ten this year, offers a mixture of Drupal consultancy, development, hosting and support services to a range of sectors but specialising in public sector.
