What is Pimcore?
Pimcore is a Product Information Management or PIM system used by a growing number of organizations around the world such as: Intersport, Burger King and Virgin Travel to manage their data. The framework provides Content Management (CMS), Digital Asset Management (DAM), Digital Commerce, Multi-Channel Publishing, Analytics, Reporting and a host of other features and is 100% open source. Based in Salzburg, Austria – the development team work closely with partner agencies around the world to provide enterprise level solutions for business in every sector.
Workflow in Pimcore
Pimcore is a very flexible and scalable product with wide reaching applications. Adding a configurable workflow extension to the framework allows rules to be put in place that state when, where and how information can be stored and retrieved. This functionality opens up huge opportunities for developing applications with incredibly complex requirements when it comes to managing data for websites, apps and other Omni channel experiences. It has already been used to develop several CRM style apps with many other use cases currently being explored.
Gather originally developed the extension for one client with a very specific use case. However, the larger potential for this kind of digital information management was quickly realized. After demoing the tool at last year’s Pimcore Unconference, Gather were asked if they would consider allowing it to be written into the core. The team were happy to agree.
