GTA 5 'embargo breach' investigated

The latest instalment of the GTA franchise is due to go on sale tomorrow, but some fans are claiming to have already received the game through the post. Scores of lucky gamers took to social media to post pictures of GTA 5 and claim they had ordered their copy through Amazon.

Some users said they had already begun playing the game and invited friends round to join them. The early releases are likely to infuriate high street retailers looking to capitalise on the excitement when shop doors open tomorrow.

Rockstar North, the producers of GTA, said that they were "investigating" the claims in a short statement given to GamesIndustry International. "We are in the process of investigating early 'sales' to determine how and why that is occurring," it read. Amazon admitted a "small number of customers" had already received the game in a statement issued to The Telegraph this afternoon.

An Amazon spokesman said: "We have established processes in place to deliver new titles to customers on their release date and are looking into the circumstances that led to a small number of customers receiving this game earlier than intended on this occasion."
