What is Talent Day?
Talent Day is a careers fair focused on the digital and tech sector, hosted by Manchester Digital as part of our Digital Skills Festival.
A range of Greater Manchester’s leading digital and tech employers and training providers will be exhibiting, looking to meet the next generation of talent - as well as advertising some of their current vacancies.
You can expect to find career opportunities in areas such as software development, product management, software engineering, digital marketing, design, UX and much more.
You can see this year's list of exhibitors here.
You’ll have the opportunity to speak to these businesses directly - finding out more about them, their values and their opportunities, as well as having the opportunity to sell yourself and build your network.
In addition, there will be employer-led seminars that you can attend and you can sign up on the day to visit our CV clinic and discuss how to present yourself with an expert.
The venue
Talent Day will take place at New Century Hall, which is located in the heart of Manchester’s NOMA district.
Address: 34 Hanover St Manchester M4 4AH
The easiest way to get there is via public transport, and it’s just a short walk from Shudehill Bus and Tram Stop, as well as Manchester Victoria Train Station.
If you do need to drive in, nearby car parks include
- Just Park, Riga St, Manchester, M4 4AF
- EuroPark, 88a Miller St, Manchester, M4 4DY
New Century features several facilities around the venue to make the space a comfortable experience for anyone with access requirements. If you do have specific access requirements or have any concerns ahead of your visit, please contact us. We anticipate the last time slot of the day (2pm-4pm) to be quieter so you may want to factor that into your plans.
Food and beverages are available to purchase downstairs in the bar/restaurant area. Please note New Century is a cashless venue.
How to prepare
1. Research the companies attending
Talent Day brings together a wide range of tech organisations, all keen to meet new talent. Ahead of the event, check the list of exhibitors on the Digital Skills Festival website. Research the companies that interest you, explore their job openings and think about how your skills align with their needs.
2. Polish your CV
A well-crafted CV can make a lasting impression. Keep it concise, highlight relevant skills and experience, and make sure your contact details are up to date. Bring printed copies with you on the day and consider having a digital version ready to share.
3. Optimise your LinkedIn profile
Many employers will look you up online after meeting you, so ensure your LinkedIn profile is up to date and reflects your skills and experience. A professional photo, clear headline and well-written summary can make you stand out.
4. Prepare your introduction
First impressions count. Be ready to introduce yourself confidently - who you are, what you’re looking for, and what interests you about the company you’re speaking to. Keep it brief but engaging.
5. Dress for the occasion
There’s no need for a suit, but smart casual is a good approach. You want to look professional while still feeling comfortable.
6. Make a plan for the day
With so many businesses to meet, planning ahead can help. Identify the companies you most want to speak to and prioritise visiting their stands. But also leave room for exploring and speaking to businesses you haven’t heard of before - there might be opportunities you hadn’t considered.
7. Ask the right questions
Engage with employers by asking thoughtful questions. Rather than just asking what jobs they have available, consider asking about company culture, team structure, or opportunities for progression. This shows genuine interest and helps you find the right fit.
8. Follow up afterwards
After the event, connect with people you met on LinkedIn and follow up with any employers who stood out to you. A quick message thanking them for their time can go a long way in keeping the conversation going.
