Each week we interview one of our members to find out a bit more about them and their work in the Greater Manchester digital sphere. This week we're speaking with hosting specialists, TeleData.
What does your organisation do?
TeleData is a specialist hosting provider and data centre offering secure colocation and active-active cloud solutions. Our solutions are designed to deliver certainty of business continuity for IT and staff, including workplace recovery services from our own south Manchester facility.
What do you think is currently the biggest issue facing the digital and tech industry?
There is a lack of quality competition within our space as we see more and more successful independents being acquired by larger providers who chose acquisition over organic growth. Even start-ups with big ideas are being swallowed up in their very early stages by larger competitors, potentially stunting innovation from the next generation of tech superstars.
What is your organisation’s biggest achievement?
Surviving and thriving as an independent, organically grown hosting provider. We have successfully innovated to stand out through development and investment to become an industry-leading provider of active/active cloud hosting solutions.
What would you consider to be your organisations biggest challenge?
Maintaining our ethos. Our way-of-working is valued very highly by customers, so we have to recruit, train and monitor our culture just as carefully as we do the quality of our solutions. Having the right people in the right places, a team of people that all hold the same core values, and high staff retention levels are crucial for us to maintain this ethos.
What do you think the future looks like for Manchester’s digital and tech sector?
Bright. As infrastructure develops (transport and property, as well as technical), we need to make sure relevant skills are developed and talent remains in the region. Developments like Airport City and the attraction of major names such as Amazon and the Hut Group are key to the whole growth and tech development strategy of Manchester.
Tell us something we might not know about your company?
Our Delta House facility in Wythenshawe used to be the HQ for Shell UK. It’s a 70,000sft building, and is the only data centre in Europe to benefit from an on-site security centre that is certified to NSI Gold BS5979 standards.
