iPhone trade-in scheme arrives in UK Apple Stores

Apple has added a section to all of its UK store website pages which states that customers can trade in their old iPhones and get up to £175 for a new one.

"iPhones hold great value. So, Apple Retail Stores in the UK are launching a new programme to assist customers who wish to bring in their previous-generation iPhone for reuse or recycling," Apple told The Telegraph. In addition to helping support the environment, customers will be able to receive a credit for their returned phone that they can use toward the purchase of a new iPhone."

Apple has been piloting the trade-in scheme in the United States since August. iPhones brought in for exchange are inspected by an Apple employee and the owner is asked a series of questions about the condition of the device in order to determine a value.

The owner is then offered a price based on hardware damage, water damage, and screen quality. This value is added to an Apple gift card, which can be used towards the purchase of a new iPhone. Apple states on its website that trade-in credit is only valid when the customer is purchasing a new iPhone activated in store with the network of their choice. This means that you cannot just trade your old iPhone for a gift card.
