Manchester Digital chosen to help deliver programme that will develop the next generation of digital talent

Manchester Digital is pleased to announce that it will be involved in GM Digital Skills – a Greater Manchester Combined Authority initiative that will develop the region’s digital talent pipeline.

The programme is split into two separate strands:

Lot 1: Go Digital: an innovative activity to excite young people at KS3 about digital opportunities and build their skills outside of the formal curriculum. Following on from the activity will lead to enrichment activities to continue developing digital skills, with a specific focus on working with Year 8 girls.

Lot 2: Digital Futures: A programme of strategic support to build sustainable connections between education and industry. Delivering a teacher CPD programme to support a GM industry relevant curriculum; and careers insight, awareness and experiences for young people, teachers and influencers.

Manchester Digital has been awarded a contract by GMCA that will see us further develop our the digital talent pipeline by working with young people.

Digital Futures will be our own programme whilst Go Digital that we will help to deliver in as part of a wider consortium called Go Digital which includes The White Room, Innovate Her and Hive.

On being selected by GMCA to be involved in the programme, Manchester Digital’s Managing Director Katie Gallagher said

“We are delighted to have secured this opportunity to scale our talent and skills work and be able to showcase the breadth of careers

and opportunities that our industry can offer to young people. Working alongside GMCA we want to ensure that the region has access to a strong, diverse pipeline of talent and this programme will

allow us to create new and innovative ways of reaching students to help them understand the different pathways into the sector. ”

On the programme, Cllr Andrew Western, GMCA Digital City Region Lead says

"This is a really exciting step towards realising our digital aspirations for Greater Manchester. We have the largest digital, creative and tech sector outside of London, but the sector would be nothing without the talent, skills and people that work in the industry. I’d encourage some of the great digital organisations in the city region to get involved in this innovative new programme."
