Central Manchester is the most “vibrant” place to live in the country, according to a new report looking at changes in society. An influx of young people into newly-built city centre homes over the last 15 years has transformed the standard of living, it was found.
Manchester was ranked 21st when the same study was conducted in 2001 but now it has overtaken London at the top of the table. A change in demographics, landscape and investment has sparked Manchester's rise to the top. Bars, restaurants, shopping and leisure activities were not considered in the report, as experts argue that a city's social scene only grows when population and investment grows first.
The London borough of Kensington trails Manchester in second place.
City bosses welcomed the report and said the results prove beyond doubt that Manchester is booming.
