1. What does your organisation do?
We are Peak, the pioneers of artificial intelligence for business, on a mission to help our clients do great things with data. The Peak service enables the rapid deployment of AI solutions into businesses, helping our customers grow their revenues and profits through data-driven insights. Built by our team of in-house data scientists and engineers, the Peak AI platform underpins our service, and allows us to rapidly stream data into a centralised platform. It’s then unified, transformed, modelled and published; our customers take this published data back into their business systems to drive automation, growth and profitability.
2. What do you think is currently the biggest issue facing the digital and tech industry?
Competition is obviously fierce, and businesses need to make the heart of what they do harder to replicate. A lot of services and products are in danger of becoming less defensible as they become easier to copy, and with category kings dominating the majority of markets, it can be difficult for startups and emerging businesses to get to where they need to be. We believe that data, and the ability to leverage it using artificial intelligence and machine learning, provides businesses with an unmissable opportunity to thrive in today’s competitive marketplace.
3. What is your organisation’s biggest achievement?
There have been lots of big achievements along the way to get us to this point. The biggest impact has probably come from winning Tech North’s Northern Stars award in 2015. That was a huge achievement for us as a company, and has been a major factor behind our ongoing expansion and growth. We developed some amazing relationships off the back of that win and it’s definitely played a big part in our continued success.
4. What would you consider to be your organisation’s biggest challenge?
As far as challenges are concerned, it’s definitely a case of how we’re able to scale and grow our team further whilst maintaining the ethos of the company. We have a unique culture and mentality here at Peak, and it’s important that we’re able to hold onto those beliefs and high values as we continue to grow.
5. What do you think the future looks like for Manchester’s digital and tech sector?
The future is undoubtedly bright! There are so many great companies and startups operating in and around the city right now, all showing ambition which is brilliant for the region. We may be biased given the nature of what we do at Peak, but for us, this is the year that we’ll truly see artificial intelligence move more into the mainstream. The role of AI is becoming increasingly more prevalent in the way that businesses grow and develop, and there’s a real appetite for these kind of technologies across the city. It feels like we’re on the cusp of something that’s really going to take off.
6. Tell us something we might not know about your company?
We were born in a pub! Like all good ideas, the concept of Peak was first discussed over a pint in the local. Co-founders Richard Potter, David Leitch and Atul Sharma were all of the belief that, while there were a lot of companies out there doing data analytics, none of them were doing it quite right. Peak was set up with the aim of changing industries, transforming the way that businesses use their data to operate and achieve success.
