For the North West to flourish, we need to address the ‘brain drain’.
Currently, we’re seeing about a third of our graduates leave the region to work in London.
Reversing this trend is a major challenge, but one the digital and tech sector is facing up to. The sector is seeing remarkable growth – growth that’s helping the North West to encourage big names such as Channel 4, Amazon, GCHQ and many more to relocate here.
We believe the arrival of these organisations, and the jobs and level of training and development they will offer, on top of the array of exciting roles that already exist within our region’s SME’s, agencies and start-ups, will help to convince more students and job seekers that their futures lie in the North West.
We know that students are attracted to the areas they believe will offer them the best long-term prospects for achieving good careers and wages.
That’s why we urge universities to help us to tackle the brain drain and build upon the growth we are seeing by helping us to promote the Digital Skills Festival Talent Day 2019 to your students.

What’s more, there will also be CV workshops and student seminars hosted by companies in attendance such as, BJSS, Auto Trader and MoneySupermarket.
Why your support matters
As well as the household names that are relocating to the North West, we’re also seeing huge numbers of startups choosing to set up in the North for the same reason – access to talent.
The abundance of respected universities within the region gives us a specific advantage, their existence promises businesses with access to the diverse talent pool they need to achieve growth.
Growth which will, in turn, lead to more prosperity and therefore more jobs and opportunities for graduates to enjoy, opportunities that they would previously have gone to London to seek.
