On November 28th, the Annual Gala Award Dinner at London Hilton on Park Lane, our team gave thanks to the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) for being recognized as the national Venture-backed Management Team of the Year. This award, defined as a company backed by a venture capital firm, where the investment was substantial to develop an innovative technology product or service, is a great honor for our growing company.
The BVCA is the industry body for the UK private equity and venture capital industry. From a shortlist of regional award-winning companies, the judges selected seven outstanding enterprises that have demonstrated exceptional performance and illustrated the important role private equity and venture capital plays in the real economy, nurturing innovation and supporting growth. In September 2019, the Matillion management team was on hand to receive the regional award of the same name.
The judging criteria for the Venture-backed Management Team of the Year were as follows:
- Particular focus on bringing to market new and high impact innovations;
- Evidence of skill in the way innovations have been translated into products, for example, partnerships, regulatory hurdles overcome, technical challenges navigated;
- Financial success to be judged not by reference to profitability: external validation still essential but more likely to be by revenue growth, significant contracts and external investment from respected investors at increasing valuations.
A representative of Grant Thornton’s judging panel said of Matillion:
“Matillion is a fantastic business that has been performing very well since it was founded in 2011. Matthew Scullion has successfully grown the team, as well as its geographical range, and is clearly committed to consistently improving their product range and customer base. With such a talented and ambitious management team, Matillion is on track to scale up into a profitable business. Matillion’s strong focus on CSR initiatives is also impressive.”
