Last Wednesday (September 4th) , we had the pleasure of hosting our “Meet the Talent” event at CodeNation in Chester, aimed at supporting the next generation of cyber security professionals and highlighting our commitment to skills growth and ecosystem development across the North West.
It was an afternoon packed with valuable insights, networking, and practical advice for graduates and employers alike.
We kicked off the event by introducing NWCSC to some new faces, highlighting our mission to drive innovation, skills development, and collaboration within the region’s cyber sector. As part of our commitment to nurturing talent, this event was a fantastic opportunity for attendees to connect with key players in the local cyber community and explore how we can collectively grow the talent pool across Cheshire and the North West.
CV and LinkedIn Tips from an Industry Expert
One of the event’s key highlights was an insightful talk from NWCSC member, Musa Ayoob, an experienced cyber recruiter, who shared valuable advice with CodeNation current students and graduates. Musa gave practical tips on how to craft an impressive CV, optimise LinkedIn profiles, and stand out to potential employers in the competitive cyber industry. His advice on showcasing relevant skills and experience resonated strongly with the students, offering them a clear roadmap for building successful careers in cyber.
Cyber skills landscape in the North West
NWCSC then provided an overview of the cyber skills landscape in Cheshire and the wider North West region. With demand for cyber talent at an all-time high, we discussed the critical need to develop local skills, the opportunities available for training, and how NWCSC is working to bridge the gap between education and employment. We also touched on our work to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government, ensuring a thriving ecosystem that can support graduates entering the sector.
Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) gave an overview of the department’s vision for the cyber sector and the programmes available to support graduates and businesses alike. This provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the government’s role in shaping the future of cyber security and the opportunities available through DSIT’s initiatives. It was great to see strong alignment between the government’s vision and our mission to nurture talent in the region.
Overall, it was a successful afternoon of networking, sharing advice, and discussing the challenges and opportunities for graduates entering the cyber security sector.
We’re very grateful to CodeNation for hosting and partnering with us on this event, and we look forward to continuing to support the growth of cyber talent in the North West.
