If your development or staging website gets unintentionally indexed by Google, it can catastrophically impact search rankings and consequently your revenue.
It shouldn’t happen but it does, staging websites under development get indexed by Google and that can cause huge problems for the search rankings of the main website. Indexping, a new web application that allows businesses, agencies, and freelancers to monitor their pre-production (staging) environments for indexation, has been launched today. Indexping aims to help users protect their search rankings, and ultimately prevent revenues from being cannibalised by inadvertently indexed staging environments.
Indexping monitors staging sites to see if a search engine has accidentally indexed it and send alerts, so that remedial action can be taken. Indexping works in all regions, including the UK, USA, Germany, France and Spain. Users can choose from various alert options.
Indexping was initially created as an internal agency tool by Manchester based ecommerce agency, PushON. After discovering the widespread and costly issue of indexation leakage, the owners of PushON decided to release Indexping to the public to assist other businesses with the same problem.
The issue of indexation leakage is when staging environments, which are meant to be private and inaccessible to search engines, are accidentally crawled and indexed by Google and other search engines. This can result in duplicate content, ranking drops, and loss of traffic and revenue for the live site.
According to Indexping’s research, over 4 million pages from pre-production environments are currently indexed by Google. This includes household names such as Jet2, Dyson and Adidas. And the problem isn't unique to any platform, or industry with WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, BigCommerce and Magento websites all found during the research.
Indexping is now available for sign up at https://www.indexping.com. Users can choose from four plans: Individual, Agency, Freelancer, and Enterprise, depending on their needs and budget. Indexping also offers a free month trial for new users to test the service.
